Background of the Study
University databases are crucial for managing large volumes of data related to students, faculty, staff, courses, and other academic and administrative functions. With the exponential growth in student enrollment and digital services, the computational efficiency of these databases becomes a significant concern. Federal University, Wukari, located in Wukari LGA, Taraba State, handles extensive datasets across various departments. However, as the database grows, issues related to data retrieval time, query processing, and overall system performance emerge. Optimizing computational efficiency in large-scale databases is essential for improving user experience and ensuring the smooth operation of university systems. This study will focus on evaluating the computational efficiency of the university’s database systems, aiming to identify bottlenecks and propose optimization techniques.
Statement of the Problem
As the volume of data in university systems continues to grow, Federal University, Wukari faces challenges in maintaining efficient performance across its database systems. These challenges include slow query execution, delays in data retrieval, and poor system scalability. Without addressing these issues, the university may face disruptions in critical administrative and academic functions. The lack of systematic analysis of computational efficiency and optimization strategies in the university’s databases exacerbates the problem. Therefore, it is necessary to assess the computational efficiency of the existing system and propose methods for improving performance, scalability, and response times.
